We are a network of people interested in organic production in and around Cumbria -
farmers, growers, processors, retailers and consumers.
We aim to increase communication, awareness and competence among people - in and around
Cumbria - who are interested in producing, marketing, promoting and eating organic food.
We have over 60 members. If

If you join us you will be able to learn more about organic food production and particularly about what
is happening in and around Cumbria. You can also meet people involved in all stages of producing and marketing organic food.
For farmers and growers, Cumbria Organics gives the opportunity for moral and technical
support from other people who are in conversion or already in organic production. Our
network also offers trading opportunities for farmers as well as for other commercial
buyers.
For the consumer, Cumbria Organics offers insights into organic production and information
on where to buy organic food.

WHO
DOES WHAT AND WHERE – IN SUPPORT OF ORGANIC BUSINESSES
Kate
Gascoyne
works full-time as Organic Network Co-ordinator, based at CREA, with
part-time administration support from Liz Beaty. This involves doing this
newssheet, handling enquiries about organic conversion or the organic market,
sign - posting to specialists, facilitating any workshops, collaborative
learning or marketing between businesses, facilitating the Food For Life schools
workshops, handling relevant funding or support from other organisations,
working with other programmes to ensure that organic producers are included in
relevant schemes or events. It involves working closely with the
North West
Organic Centre team
–that is Lucinda Kirkby on general enquiries, information, funding and
training, Sue Woof on livestock, feed information and trading, Joyce Brocklebank
on consumer-awareness raising and information.
As
some of you will know, unfortunately Arno De Snoo left the NWOC in December to
return to Holland.
A number of people including the above, plus Alan Schofield and other
specialists are covering the enquiries and developmental work until Arno’s
post is replaced. We expect that this will be in June, when details of funding
for the NWOC become clearer.
Lucinda’s,
Sue’s and Joyce’s work will be funded until June, and then we hope continued
as part of the NWOC package. Kate and Liz’s work will continue to the end of
October, funded by the Esmee Fairbairn Foundation and in partnership with CREA.
