description: We have 50 hectares rich in wild flowers, 49 hectares of native deciduous woodland. Building up a collection of old varieties of apples and plums, including all the old Lancashire varieties. We also have pedigree Lleyn sheep and an Environmental Study Centre. A camping barn and yurts are available for hire. We run various ‘green’ courses, especially permaculture and woodland crafts. Most of the farm is in countryside stewardship with woodland walks. School visits are encouraged. We are currently inviting local people to become involved as Middlewood crop sharers. As a crop sharer, you will share the produce of fruit, livestock and the woodlands, as well as weekends of skill development and celebrating the natural cycle.

description: Ours is a 45 ha certified organic dairy and stock rearing farm. We produce milk and traditional Ayrshire Sweetmilk cheese from our pedigree herd of Ayrshire cows. Organic Aberdeen Angus beef and prime organic lamb is also prepared for direct sale to customers. The farm is in the Countryside Stewardship Scheme. Visitors are welcome to follow the farm trail which links the Roman road and bridleway - the Maiden Way, to the farmstead and a second bridleway, enabling visitors to experience a wide variety of wildlife habitats along the way. We welcome, by appointment, school parties and other organizations for farm visits which are tailored to each group’s individual requirements. Farmhouse accommodation is available for B & B, farm holidays and riding holidays for those wishing to bring their own horses. Meals prepared from our farm, garden and other local produce, are our speciality.

description: We now have 96 hectares fully organic land with another 20 hectares in conversion. The farm shop stocks a wide range of quality produce – fresh meat, butter, cheese, chutneys, bread, cakes (much of it sourced locally) and home-grown vegetables. There is wheelchair access and a disabled toilet. The rustic tea room serves delicious home-cooked meals using our own meat and vegetables (open 10.00am–5.30pm daily). Greystone House was the overall winner of the 2003 Countryside Awards, organised by the Cumberland News. Visitors can enjoy a self-guided trail around the farm and see various conservation projects in development, part-funded by the Countryside Stewardship Scheme. Guided tours for schools and other large parties are available by prior arrangement. The farm also arranges special events, such as lambing weekends. Please telephone for details.

description: Growing Well is a social enterprise based on Low Sizergh Farm, an organic dairy farm on the edge of the Lake District. We are a non-profit making company that supports the recovery of people with mental health problems and their return to work, through their involvement as volunteers in our commercial organic production business. We grow a wide range of organic produce on five acres, with some indoor cropping space. We sell wholesale to Low Sizergh Barn and local box schemes. We offer horticulture training courses with an emphasis on organic growing, in collaboration with Kendal College, and we host school groups and other educational visits; we have classroom space in one of our three yurts on our fields.

description: Howbarrow is a small, mixed holding of 7 hectares which grows organic salad crops and an extensive range of culinary and medicinal herbs within polytunnels. A small flock of traditional sheep and cattle provide a quantity of organic meat, with free-range organic turkeys also available at Christmas. Produce is available directly to your door, countywide, through a highly commended box scheme [supplying almost 500 boxes per week] and a mail order scheme – see website for further details. Howbarrow belongs to the Soil Association Organic Farms Network, and visitors are welcome to walk round the Farm Trail. The centre is a non-profit making organisation which aims to promote sustainability in farming, food, countryside conservation and waste management, renewable energy and water use. Low Luckens works in partnership with the neighbouring Whiteholme Farm and produces organic beef, lamb and pork. It is a member of the Soil Association Organic Farms Network, and is open all year round. The centre welcomes visitors and groups for day or residential visits. It hosts a programme of events to promote or demonstrate sustainability.

description: Low Sizergh Farm is a family dairy farm of 106 hectares with an award winning farm shop, Low Sizergh Barn, craft gallery and tea room [with viewing window into the milking parlour]. Produce from the farm includes organic Kendal Crumbly and Creamy cheeses, milk, and ice cream made from our own milk. Delivery is available to caterers and retailers in the area. Growing Well, a therapeutic horticulture project, is based at the farm, cultivating delicious organic vegetables. description: Mansergh Hall has been farmed by the Hadwin family for five generations and currently produces award-winning Mansergh Hall lamb, as well as rare breed pork and Aberdeen Angus beef. The farm reached organic status in September 2004. Mansergh Hall not only sell their produce through the farm shop, but also supply various hotels and restaurants throughout the Lake District, North Lancashire and Yorkshire. Along with this they also supply farm shops in Cumbria, including; Low Sizergh Barn Shop [nr Kendal], Carleton Farm Shop [nr Penrith], Westmorland Services Farm Shop [Tebay] and ‘Taste’ at Rheged. The shop is open Tues-Fri (9.00am–5.00pm), Saturday (9.00am–1.30pm) and at other times by appointment. Here you will find, along with the lamb, pork and beef, award-winning home-cured bacon and gammon, a delete wide variety of hand made sausages as well as organic chickens, milk and eggs. description: We run an 85 hectare organic livestock farm rearing traditional breeds of cattle, sheep and pigs. We market and deliver all our meat which is specially prepared in our farm butchery to the requirements of our customers. We are at Penrith Tuesday market and Kendal Wednesday market every week. You can join our farmer-consumer partnership, for mutual benefit, which is called the Whiteholme Organic Network. The farm also offers walks in the North Cumbrian countryside with access through the Countryside Stewardship scheme. We work in partnership with Low Luckens Organic Resource Centre.
